Howard Elliott Decorative Mirrors (Brand Spotlight)

This week’s brand spotlight features Howard Elliott’s signature mirrors. The brand features an eclectic collection of frames, shapes, and styles, and its official website also shows several rooms that use mirrors to stand out. To give you a quick evidence of its variety, here are two rooms that are so different from each other:

Room 1. A Mirror Series
decorative round mirrors
Here’s a great tip: create a wall art series using the exact same mirror over and over again. The series acts as a great focal point and the reflections they cast as a collection also adds a decorative touch to your whole space.

Room 2. Neon is In

Neon is a hot color and not just on your shirt! The contrast between the modern neon color and the classic frame shape / etching adds a fun factor to your space.

The brand also has a unique prowess in metalwork:

The mirror above interprets traditional verde designs using a more modern medium – antique rusted metal.

Ellipse Bathroom Mirror
If subtlety is the name of your game, the bathroom mirror above is perfect for you. Sophisticated and simple, but with a hint of additional style through a burnished metal frame. I also love that the frame is not fully symmetrical.

For something completely different, consider using this mirror to add color and warmth into your bedroom or boudoir:

Industrial meets Vintage.

I instantly fell in love with Apartment Therapy’s feature of this industrial-vintage space:

Source: apartmenttherapy.com via Home on Pinterest

I love the brick wall and the quirky whale art print cloth that hangs on it. If it were me, I’d like to add even more industrial edge to it. Here’s my idea of a “vintage meets industrial” look:

Industrial and Vintage Home Decor

It’s good to add some bright colors to the room – I am particularly loving the yellow vintage typewriter which I found over at Etsy. Most of the other things here are also Etsy finds, except for the mirror in the middle – our Antique Crackled Gold Mirror w/ Ovals, and the gorgeous pipe lights. Some other pieces include the industrial filing cabinet, some vintage license plates to spruce up your wall, a blue desk, and some vintage ceiling lamps. For your flooring, consider looking at some beautiful pictures of rugs for the stairs and landings to get inspired.

What do you think about the marriage between industrial and vintage? This is the kind of interior that I would love to have on my home office or study room.

Other great industrial / metal mirrors can be found on our store here.

Brand Spotlight: Mirrors by Cooper Classics

Our brand spotlight for the week is Cooper Classics. Earlier, I posted about Chippendale furniture, and some of the featured products in that post happen to be from this brand. Not merely a one-trick pony, the brand has a wide variety of other styles to choose from.

Cabin Rustic
The brand offers a lot of wooden frames in several different rustic finishes and below are several examples that I really love. I find wood to be the quickest way to make your space cozier.

Regal Decor
This one mirror has always caught my eye:

The engravings on the top are just exquisite, and instantly remind you of lavish homes during the olden days. It would look great complemented with other traditional furniture, perhaps lush carpeting in a deep, regal red, and beside classic wall paintings.

Unique Shapes
I’ve always stressed about the charm of using unique frames and shapes for your mirrors to instantly turn them into conversation pieces and focal points on your room. Cooper Classics offers several different shapes, from stars to sunbursts to sunflowers:

Seeing Red: A Valentine’s Home

At the risk of being a tad cliched, this week I’ll be showing you some design inspirations for Valentine’s, mostly in the shade of red and pink. I’ve seen a lot of great finds over at Pinterest to help you along your inspiration:

Here’s a craft idea that would look great on your wall:

For your table centerpiece, choose something with a deep shade of red for a sophisticated look. You can make it subtle, so that you can still use the centerpiece even after cupid’s day, just like this one, which would make your whole table instantly stand out:

As always, wall decal stickers are the easiest way to (temporarily) celebrate February 14. You can purchase something that SCREAMS love and hearts and everything mushy in between – with hearts, a picture of the cupid, maybe a quote that makes you go “aww” such as:

Love quote wall sticker

For something cute and more subtle:

Then when the heart’s month is over, you can easily take the stickers out like they were never there ;) Infusing some red into your room doesn’t have to be a seasonal thing, a pop of color is always a welcome idea. For example, try getting a neutral-colored carpet with a red border

Everyone here at Bathroom Mirrors Direct is just as much a fan of the season as you guys are. Aside from red mirrors, we even have a couple of heart-shaped wall mirrors, like this Venetian piece:

Heart-Shaped Mirror

We like how this design has an old-world charm to it and is generic enough to be used even after the month of February.

With Valentine’s Day just over a week away, we hope you guys spend some time to usher the warmth and glow of love into your home. Whether you’d like to go all out with cupids, hearts, and love quotes, or if you prefer just an added touch of red here and there, it’s sure to bring a nice pop of color to your house, and a smile to your face.

Chippendale Furniture

Chippendale Furniture is sought out by many antique aficionados. And rightly so – the details of these home decor pieces are elaborate and very classic, generally characterized by curves and arches:

A Chippendale chair design

But first, a little history shall we? This kind of furniture was the brainchild of Thomas Chippendale in the 1700s, who came from a line of wood workers. His work was so beloved by many that he became the first cabinet-maker to get the unique opportunity of publishing a book about his designs.

Back to the present. More than 300 years later, his design remains very famous. There are still a lot of chippendale inspired pieces on the market to date and that includes Chippendale mirror frames like this one and this one:

Note the curvature and the antique effect it gives off. It also has a subtle hint of gothic flair to it. There are a lot more Chippendale decor to enjoy and here are two of our favorite picks:

A nice marriage between Chippendale fashion and oriental sensibility:

Decorating your Stairway Wall

The stairway is a great focal point in any home and the wall and headboard across the stairway are blank canvasses itching to be decorated! Guests and homeowners alike will find themselves appreciating the decor as they walk up and down the stairs.

Here are some ways to go about your decorating project:

1. Choose your wallpaper / paint! Find a wallpaper or paint color that:
a. Does not clash with the space surrounding the stairway
b. Tickles your fancy! Whether you’d like a striking shade to perk up the otherwise drab area or a retro wallpaper that you simply adore, make sure you choose something that would put a smile on your face each time you pass by.

Memory Lane Wall Photo Gallery2. Make a collage of small paintings, photo frames, and mirrors.
Before you start making your collage, zone in on a particular theme:

a. A Trip down memory Lane
In many cases, homeowners opt for photos of their family growing up, graduation photos, wedding photos, and other framed mementos.

For a more subtle take on this theme, look for old artwork projects of your kids – maybe greeting cards they penned for you in the past, small craft projects you personally took on before, etc. Frame these up and arrange creatively.

b. Inspirational words
Look for inspirational quotes with great typography online (there are a lot on Pinterest). Print them up, then frame. Or if you’d like professionally ready-made inspirational artwork, you can head here. This may not work well if you chose a busy wallpaper, because it might look too cluttered.

c. Mirror Mural
This is a great idea if you chose a very striking, busy wallpaper design. Just buy a couple of different-sized mirrors with lovely frames (try to stick with simpler frames if you’re going to be laying out a lot of mirrors; or go the opposite route and choose just 3 distinct-looking pieces).

You can also buy a few wall art for variety’s sake (inspirational quotes with less words would also be great), maybe a nice wall clock (sans the digits for a cleaner look) then arrange them in a creative manner. To look for some great mirrors, you can head to our catalog, then using the filter on the left sidebar, click on the sizes you want. Here’s an example to illustrate:

Collage of Mirrors and Wall Art

This features the ff. mirrors:
Dark Brown Mirror with Rays
Chippendale Mirror
Nakeisha Rectangular Vanity Mirror

And this inspirational quote:
Making Things Happen

3. Carpet your Stairs
If you’d like your staircase to also have an extra decorative “oomph”, consider buying carpets for your stairs, or what are typically called stair runners. You can choose a lot of different colors and borders to tie in with your wall art.

Our Favorite Unique Mirror Frames + Happy New Year!

Happy new year everyone! It’s back to work again and we thought we’d take the time to highlight our top picks of mirrors and frames in unique shapes to get you started on any up and coming plans of purchasing new pretty decor for your home:

This one is an interesting mirror which seems to have picked up its inspiration from a xylophone, then turned it into a quirkier piece by differentiating the edges and mixing up the positions. This is a frameless piece, and just as well – the mirror cuts serve as a striking enough focal point, perfect for contemporary, modern rooms with a futuristic twist.

I love this gorgeous frame. From afar, the mirror and its frame stretching outwards almost looks like an exotic flower. Go closer and you see the delicate details, forged lovingly by hand, and admire the rustic quality of the mirror. This is perfect for rooms finished in a brown motif.

I’ve shown you two completely different but equally decorative mirrors just to show you how we take the famous saying “Variety is the spice of life” to heart! Be sure to check out our home page for more choices.

Speaking of unique decor you can place on your wall, take a gander at this thought-provoking unique metal wall decor:

Cheers to a GREAT year ahead!

Bassett Mirrors for a Subtle Oriental Look (Brand Spotlight)

Bassett has established itself not only as a reputable mirror manufacturer, but also a leading furniture supplier. The company has stood the test of time, having been around for over a century to date.

You can decorate your whole space with just the vast selection Bassett has to offer. Today, I showcase how a great bedroom with an Oriental flair would look like, using some of their pieces:

I wanted a more subtle oriental look, and this mirror provided great inspiration:

I absolutely love the mirror’s sleek medium brown finish.

From there, I came up with this Asian-inspired collection:

The bed’s wooden support blends well with the colors of the Bassett mirror frame, and I opted for a red-brown color scheme for a nice warm look. The red pillow provides a very distinct accent and blends well with the rug.

Brand Spotlight: Uttermost Mirrors – Utterly Remarkable

The Uttermost company has been providing remarkable home decor for more than 3 decades and its passion for the industry has shone through its end products. Here are some of our favorite Uttermost mirrors, which showcase the company’s exquisite eye for details:

The left most oval mirror is made from antiqued capiz shells that lend a sophisticated and unique texture to the mirror.

The distressed look has always been popular with homeowners because it adds a rustic, almost old-world look. The top right mirror, the Cayman wall mirror, is made from a distressed hand forged metal frame.

Finally, the Seneca Wall mirror on the bottom right of the photo above is a sophisticated spin on what personally reminds us of a disco ball.

Uttermost also provides a great selection of furniture, like antique furniture, abstract art, unique lamps, etc. This rustic lamp with quite an interesting structure would look great with the Cayman wall mirror:
